Inventing started back as a kid when converting the crib I had just outgrown into a Rube Goldberg contraption exploiting the spring tension. This I proudly demonstrated to my mother in the basement. Inventing runs in my family. While a junior in high school I visited my Uncle who had successfully marketed his automatic pet feeder to General Mills, the "Feedo-matic". Visiting his technical facility and seeing technicians at work on prototypes left a lasting impression.
My professional career began in earnest in 1980 working as an application engineer fabricating components to precision tolerances from blue prints programming computer numerical control milling and turning centers and also quality control inspection. This occurred through 1990. As an independent contractor this afforded me the opportunity to work on varied projects in varied manufacturing environments during several short to mid-term assignments. This included wave guides to the Jay stars multi-phased array radar system and tungsten filaments for industrial lighting.
Throughout the 1990s a transition to technical sales and marketing for the commercial industrial interiors and ergonomics industry exposed me to smart building technology including sound masking, movable re-usable wall systems, modular wire management, ergonomic workstation design and accessories. This included 6 years at Ergoworks Inc and 4 years Malik Inc.
Through my contacts at Malik I landed a position in 2001 with SMED International in technical marketing at their Boston show room. I received extensive factory training on their line of innovative modular architectural and construction products marketing them to companies in the metro Boston area. During this time I had invented and patented the Ergonomic Portable Computer a mechanical housing design with height adjustable monitor and became a member of the Inventors Association of New England, IANE and started Syndyne.
IANE lead to a number of contacts including my licensing agent Rita Crompton in 2017. IANE (now INE) urges inventors to develop simple inventions with low development costs, mass appeal, smaller size for easy display. Through out this period I returned to independent contracting to allow me the flexibility to work on inventions while being able to fund operations. Since working with Rita I've gained valuable exposure at the National Hardware Show in Las Vegas and am targeting 4 of my inventions for licensing.
